Tom Shoval was born in Israel in 1981. He is a student at the Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film and TV School. Tom majored film studies in high school and served in the IDF as a cinematographer and a video course commander. He is a founding member of the Baboon independent group of five young film directors. Tom’s film “The Hungry Heart” won the Prize for the Promising Filmmaker and the Best Student Film at the Hamptons International Film Festival (2006) in New York and the Mickey Albin Foundation Prize for a Short Film in Israel. His high school graduation film won the Jury Prize for the Best Film and Best Director at the Dimona Film Festival. Tom has participated in the Oslo Festival for Independent Films (“The Gods’ Rage”), the Isratim Israeli Film Festival in Paris (“Van Gogh in Tel Aviv”) and the Jerusalem Film Festival (“The Hungry Heart”). He has made video clips for Israeli music groups, winning the ACUM (Israeli artists association for copyright protection) Prize for the Best Clip for 2001, the Israel Music Academy Tamuz Prize for the Best Clip for 2001 and the Prize for the Best Clip in the Competition in Memory of Ori Sonin (1998). Tom’s video clips for “The Giraffes”, Shachar Even-Zur and Kobi Recht have been screened on Israeli Music Channel (24). He has been a director and editorial member of the comedy series “The Reno Pascal Show” (channel Bip).
